EDCI is proud to offer various levels of competitive teams, while catering to both the novice competitor, as well as the experienced performer. The EDCI Competitive Dance Team consists of a group of dedicated dancers chosen to represent the studio at competitions and conventions throughout Ontario and the United States, as well as performing at various dance festivals and local community events. The dancers compete and perform in productions, large groups, small groups, trios, duets and solos. EDCI Competitive Teams attend four competitions annually and we compete in a wide-variety of dance forms such as Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Acro, Musical Theatre, Lyrical and Hip Hop. Last year, EDCI students won a combination of High Silver, Gold and Dynamic Gold awards at various competitions, and all students had a wonderful educational experience, while having a tremendous amount of fun in the process.
At Expressions Dance Centre Inc. we provide a competitive program as a means of higher education in dance training. Students learn through helpful feedback and constructive criticism from teachers, judges and their peers, and it is this process that makes the competitive experience so valuable for all of the dancers within the program, no matter what team level you are competing with. This educational process is the primary element of the competitive program, rather than placing emphasis on scores & routine placement at competition for medals and trophies, which is secondary. We then take the feedback we have received and focus on how to improve each routine for the next competition or upcoming dance festival / performance.
All competitive students are required to complete dance exams when they are technically ready to move on to the next level, and each dancer must achieve the highest standards, in order to continue in the competitive program. Dancers are also required to maintain their academic school marks while competing with the team; a copy of your most recent report card may be requested at any time.
